Session 213- A Return to Barovia Part 63; Bluetspur 3

3/8/2026

  • Tim and Fecus choose to implement the Keepers of the Feather 

    Spirit Board to get a read on which direction in the tunnel to take.  

    They ask the Board the question “Where is the Cloak of the Bat?”  

    The response is spelled out RIGHT TUNNEL ENEMY.

  • Before proceeding down the tunnel, Fecus gets on his Flying Carpet 

    and uses a Scroll of Invisibility.  Tim puts on his Ring of Invisibility.

  • After walking for quite awhile they arrive in a cavern at the site of 

    where an explosion happened that revealed the scattered remains 

    of a wall of a subterranean structure.  Past where once the wall 

    stood is a room with glass containers and other high-tech equipment.  

    2 Nothics are scavenging and don’t notice Rams.  Tim and Fecus 

    hear the creatures whisper that they should leave before “it” appears 

    again.  As Tim and Fecus observe and ponder, multiple tentacles 

    burst through the floor and drag 1 of the Nothics down.  The second 

    Nothic escapes through the circular door to the Central Chamber.

  • Rams follow the escaping Nothic into the Central Chamber where 

    they discover 3 Mind Flayer corpses.  Several other circular doors 

    are labeled in Mind Flayer script.  Fecus uses his Scroll of 

    Read Languages to decipher “Tadpole Chamber”, “Brain Library”, 

    “Transporter Room” and the “Cloning Chamber” where they had 

    entered the facility.

  • They choose the Tadpole Chamber first and encounter an injured 

    Mind Flayer at a control panel in a room that is centered on a 

    Tadpole Pool filled with a green liquid containing thousands of 

    Mind Flayer Tadpoles.  The injured Mind Flayer throws down a 

    little square of paper near Ezmerelda’s feet and it turns out to be 

    one of Team Rams’ business cards.  Shelby casts Command: 

    Comply on the MInd Flayer and it says it will give them the Cloak 

    of the Bat if they help save the tadpoles.

  • The MInd Flayer casts Mind Blast affecting Ezmerelda, Fritigern, 

    Drasha, Victor, and Tim.

  • Shelby casts Heat Metal on the Tadpoles’ Pool while Gugula and 

    Fecus deal melee DMG to the creature.  Tim and everyone recover 

    when the MInd Flayer is killed and Tim takes the Cloak of the Bat.

  • They go into the Brain Library and immediately trigger a fight with a 

    Grell and an Intellect Devourer.  That is a vicious fight as they are 

    also getting psionic communications from the various brains.  One 

    tank has M.L. Ruthwell’s name on the name plate along with the 

    Ludendorf University Docket Number that had been assigned to 

    Rams in Lamordia.  Ruthwell claims he and Rams had escaped 

    from the facility before its destruction 2 weeks ago.  He doesn’t 

    remember the Specimen or the letters they received from him.  

    Other brains are pleading for help or lashing out.  Notable brains 

    were the Thymrelgot (young Black Dragon) and Za’znadred the 

    Githyanki Knight fighting on behalf of the Lich Queen Vlaakith.

  • Tim used Knock to gain access to the Transporter Room where 

    they confront the Unspeakable Horror that nearly kills Tim, Victor, 

    and Fritigern before they defeat it and read the instructions to 

    Transport…

  • They program the console to operate the Transporter and they 

     all pile onto the Transporter pad…

  • They find themselves transported to different padded cells where 

    they are imprisoned and bound by straight jackets… only Tim is 

    not alone, Elise is there…

  • Cloak of the Bat

  • Mind Flayer killed = 2900 XP

  • Intellect Devourer killed = 450 XP

  • Grell killed = 700 XP

  • Unspeakable Horror killed 3900 XP

  • Total XP = 7950 XP

  • Tim and Fecus each receive 2650 XP

  • Gugula and Shelby each receive 1325 XP

Star Notch Stories Session #5

 

Shuyr Rilla's Completed Exorcism

 

Session 5- Sour Spring Hollow Exorcism

3/1/26

  • Boy and his team kill the 2 remaining Earth Hounds in the burial 

    ground just as 6 Hobbs Phantoms viciously attack.  Beavis finds 

    himself standing on the grave marked by sigil and not receiving 

    attacks.  He points out 1 of the cabins has the same sigil on its 

    door.  Boy instructs the team to run towards after they fight and 

    kill the 2nd wave of 3 Hobbs Phantoms.  

    Tarp and Kevin are struck down and revived during that wave.

  • At Oza’s cabin they catch a breather and pick up useful items. 

    They also find corn husk dolls that resemble Tarp and Kevin.  

    They pick those up, too.

  • Boy instructs them to run towards Burel’s cabin, where they 

    discover a loft with childish illustrations showing the fate of 

    Shuyr Rilla, a cleric of the Sovereign who tried to clear out the 

    Hobbs witches and was killed.

  • The 3rd cabin holds a spellbook called the Wayward Companion.

  • The 4th cabin is a Gardinel that eats Beavis.  Krishka collects 

    the doll on the well rim of Beavis.

  • They clear the Deadfall in the well and recover Shuyr Rilla’s 

    silver Holy Symbol of the Sovereign.

  • They start walking up the corn terrace towards the scarecrow, 

    who they have guessed is the corpse of Shuyr Rilla.

  • The Corn Dolls begin attacking those who picked them up.  

    Kevin is killed by a Corn Doll as Boy places the Holy Symbol 

    in the scarecrow’s hand.  More Hobbs Phantoms make a last 

    stand, but Boy and his team are successful against them.

  • A storm begins and washes away the corn, cabins, and 

    Hobbs Phantoms.

  • 3 Earth Hounds killed = 30 XP

  • 18 Hobbs Phantoms killed = 180 XP

  • 2 Corn Husk Dolls killed = 20 XP

  • Deadfall killed = 50 XP

Another interruption to the main campaign (Ox--->Tiger) allowed the opportunity for me to run the one-on-one Star Notch Stories last night.  For those following the adventures of Boy since he began management of the Hendershot Farm, this is Session #5 and it will conclude the events in Sour Springs Hollow.  I should have the actual play notes written up and published by tomorrow here on the blogger side of things.  

Over on my Substack, I posted my thoughts on the short session of the main campaign last Sunday.  The essay is titled Short Game Musings, posted on 2/26/26.  If the stars align, I'll be running the main campaign again on March 8th.  I'm enjoying the initial foray into Bluetspur and I'm excited to play through more of it.  

Spring coming up fast has me wondering what should an Easter themed game include?  Anyone ever play a rabbit person PC in an RPG?  I was paging through Black Pudding #1 and noted the Barbaribunny class.  Pretty sure the 5e Wild Beyond the Witchlight includes a rabbit person class, too.

  • Bookkeeping 20 minute session.

  • XP & Treasure awarded from last session.

  • Magical Healing and Potion Consumption.

  • Re-stated the goal for being in Bluetspur; Cloak of the Bat.

  • Presented the options: “You’re in a tunnel.  Do you want to go 

    LEFT or RIGHT.

  • They are considering using divination like an Augury spell or 

    their Spirit Board for some guidance.

  • Shelby and Tim are wondering if they can speak to Tiamat from 

    where they are.

     

     

    *I think that I have something to say about short time frame gaming.

    When I get my thoughts organized into a little essay, I'll post it on 

    Substack and put a link up to it over here on the blogger side 

    of things;)

Session 34- Dreams Reveal the Duskward Concord, 

An Evening Star Lodge Faction

2/14/2026

  • Before Danika and Telefe were awoken to fight the Morlocks, 

    they both experienced dreams of an Evening Star Lodge party 

    led by Radomir Vesely.  Danika dreamt of their visit to the 

    Flaming Goat in Marlinko; Telefe dreamt of their aborted attempt 

    to cross the Invisible Causeway.

  • When they arrive at the ridge across from the 

    Spire of Iron and Crystal, they see half erased chalk sigils of 

    Habeka.  Radomir introduces himself and his party to Danika 

    and hers.  Danika and Telefe had previously warned their 

    members to be silent when they meet anyone.

  • A temporary alliance is formed when Radomir and Ilva 

    signal their intention to save Nattias, who had been Ilva’s 

    mentor and the mentor of Radomir’s brother.  Nattias had 

    been influential in the Evening Star Lodge before 

    “falling into the Void” joining the Starry Void Lodge.

  • Telefe gives a 10 minute warning for the Invisible Causeway’s 

    time of operation.

  • Danika leads the party across.  Torquil attempts the tri-split path, 

    but Danika makes him turn back to wait on the ridge in relative 

    safety.

  • They eventually enter the Spire at the highest egg chamber and 

    they end the session in room #1.  Zora and Tomasz wait on the 

    intermediary platform with rope to aid in climbing.

Session 4- Sour Spring Hollow Wedding

2/8/26

  • We play Lamentations of the Flame Princess, but since this is a DCC 

    adventure from the The Chained Coffin book I had the player role 

    Luck scores for Boy (29) and Ciba (16).

  • Boy sets the late winter schedule for the Hendershot Ranch before 

    attending Cousin Dode’s cousin’s wedding.

  • Boy, Ciba, Kevin, Anders, Tarp, Beavis, and Krishka travel to 

    Sour Spring Hollow to attend the wedding of Ivy Newscombe to 

    Tum Dankers.

  • A lovely day for a lovely wedding leads to a raucous reception as 

    Jam Ranson and his 3 sons reel out song after song.  Jugs of 

    moonshine and stump whiskey make their rounds and the last 

    clear thought of Boy and Co was taking a swig of potent liquor 

    from an odd-colored jug.

  • They awaken in the grass, the clearing silent.  Deep woods 

    surround the clearing on three sides and a hillside holding 

    terraced plots of dried, dusty corn rises up west.  Four ramshackle 

    log cabins occupy the clearing.

  • Boy leads the team into the burial ground and they encounter 

    3 Earth Hounds and get in a fight.  They kill 1 and I end the session 

    in the middle of combat.
