Session 182- A Return to Barovia Part 32
6/14/2025
Although the Abbot, Vasilka, and Clovin are NPCs, I decided it would
be fun to have my players roll on the carousing chart for these 3 to
find out the consequences of their 4 days of drinking at the Blue Water
Inn while the other PCs and NPCs were up to other business while
waiting for Targalov’s Smithy to finish the custom silver items.
Here are the results:
The Abbot has made an enemy of Lady Wachter’s son, Nikolai.
Vasilka woke up in her bed with a Scroll of Passwall and
Secret Chest beside her.
Poor Clovin woke up in the Vistani camp. His violin is missing.
Shelby and Tira’s religious discussions branch off into speaking about
religious and magical artifacts. Tira is amazed at the number of items
Rams have already found and used, but is able to list a number of
others that Shelby hasn’t heard of yet.
Rams discovered:
Gulthias Staff
Tome of Strahd
Icon of Ravenloft
St. Markovia’s Thighbone
Sunsword
Still undiscovered:
Blood Spear of Kavan
Holy Symbol of Ravenkind
Madame Eva’s Tarroka Deck
Keepers of the Feather Spirit Board
Duskcrusher
Nightfall Pearl
Corpse Slayer
Gugula, Semyon, and Fritigern train for 4 days and get the following
attack bonuses for the weapon they trained with:
Gugula +1 AB with Silver Sword
Fritigern +3 AB with Axe
Semyon +4 with Rapier
As the party learns that Clovin’s prized violin is missing, Drasha
arrives with other news from the Vistani camp. The Vistani are
out of wine and could probably be negotiated with to return the
instrument if some wine were provided to them.
Fecus wants to deliver the wine with some flair. Why not buy a
goat to slaughter and fill with wine instead of a boring old barrel?
The piece de resistance is to have Victor cast Animate Dead on
the creature and walk it over to the Vistani camp southwest of
Vallaki. The removed innards of the goat are given to Victor’s
father’s mastiff dogs.
While Drasha goes to the tent of the leaders of the camp, the party
stands by listening to Ezmerelda explain the tragic story of the
Dusk Elves who live alongside the Vistani. Specifically they learn
the story of Patrina and Kasimir Velikov’s tragic entanglement with
Strahd.
Drasha brings the party to Luvash and Arrigal’s tent where they are
punishing a teenage Vistani (Alexei) with lashings of a whip. The
Vistani men are cranky from having run out of wine. The goat Rams
have brought impresses them after Fecus shows that Daniel the goat
has been filled with wine.
Luvash and Arrigal strike a deal that they will give the violin back if
Rams agree to help find Luvash’s daughter Arabelle who went
missing yesterday after not returning from a trip to Vallaki for
pastries.
Rams agree, the violin is returned to them, and they go investigate
the pastry shop to see what can be learned of Arabelle.
Arabelle bought her favorite treat at the shop. When she left, the
baker said that Arabelle was followed by the drunken fisherman
Bluto Krogarov.
Rams go to the shore of Lake Zarovich and see a figure in a small
fishing boat about 400’ from the shoreline. They borrow 2 of the
boats that have been left on the shoreline and row out to Bluto.
Bluto has Arabelle tied up in the bottom of his boat. He was about
to sacrifice her to the lake because Vistani are “lucky”. Tim
Polymorphs Bluto into a goat and Arabelle is saved and returned
to her father’s camp.
Luvash and Arrigal are grateful to Rams for the wine and rescuing
Arabelle. They promise to put in a good word with the other Vistani
camps for Rams. They also pay Rams with a little treasure.
Rams ask if the teenage boy, Alexei, that Luvash had been punishing
could be transferred to the Wizard of Wines to be an employee.
He could ensure that the Vistani receive a steady flow of wine.
Luvash and Arrigal agree to that arrangement.
