Yester Hill

 

Session 171- A Return to Barovia Part 21

3/16/2025

• As Rams are approaching the top of Yester Hill, lightning flashes and 

  they see an image of a magnificent city in the fog cloaking the 

  mountains to the west.

• Moving through the concentric circle of ancient cairns, the party hears 

  chanting coming from the innermost circle  “Fallpall, Fallpall, Fallpall!”

• Tim casts Invisibility on himself, Shelby casts Giant Strength on 

  Fecus, Fecus drinks an Invisibility potion, and readies himself to make 

  use of his Sovereign Flame ability.

• Penetrating the inner circle of stones, the wood and mud effigy of 

  Strahd is glowing purple as the chanting intensifies.

• Fecus isn’t liking the look of the Strahd effigy and flies at it in his 

  Sovereign Flame form dealing massive damage to the structure.

• Tim’s Magic Missile finishes the destruction of the effigy and Fecus 

  grabs the purple gem from the debris.

• The Druids and their followers emerge from “graves” within the walls 

  of the stone circle and attack Rams.

• Seraz and Victor use Magic Missile attacks and Tim casts Army of 

  One on Gugula.

• Shelby uses a potion of Human Control on the Druids' followers, 

  causing  3 of the 6 of them to retreat from the fight.

• Rams kill the Druids and their remaining followers in the circle as 

  they begin to hear something from outside the circle to the south….

• 6 Druids killed = 2700 XP

• 3 Berserkers killed = 1350 XP

• Strahd Effigy destroyed preventing the emergence of Fallpall = 

  2900 XP

• Total XP = 6950 XP

• Tim and Fecus each receive 2316 XP

• Gugula and Shelby each receive 1158 XP

The Study in Castle Ravenloft

 

Session 170- A Return to Barovia Part 20

3/9/2025

• Rams trip from Vallaki to Castle Ravenloft is uneventful.

• When they arrive at the castle, they can’t find Ireena.  When they 

  find the cook, she tells them that Ireena went to the village of 

  Barovia for her brother Ismark’s engagement party.

• Left to their own devices, they explore the books of Strahd’s study.  

  The following books contain bits and pieces of lore related to the 

  Winery or the Gems powering the Winery’s abundance.

• Franz Alastroi’s History of Ravenloft.  The winery was 

  founded by a wizard who placed the magical gems in the 

  soil of the vineyard that influence the grape production.

• Red Cloak (Vistani poetry anthology similar to our 1001 

  Arabian Nights) they learn the red gem can create extremely 

  large and powerful illusions.

• Falkon’s Guide to Fine Wines.  The pink gem is responsible 

  for the Pink Champagne grapes, the red gem is responsible 

  for the Red Dragon grapes, the purple gem is responsible for 

  the Purple Crush.

• Fecus asks Tim to help interrogate the Druid they captured at the 

  Winery.  Tim uses ESP on him and gets an image in his mind of a 

  ritual using the purple gem to bring the nightmarish Wintersplinter to 

  life.

• Tim and Fecus are worried that the Druids or Baba Lysaga might act 

  on the winery again.  They leave Castle Ravenloft without staying the 

  night and ride straight through to the winery.  Their hill person friend 

  Gorek leaves them at the Raven River Crossing where they first 

  encountered him.

• The exhausted Rams reunite with their hirelings, rest for a bit, then 

  they leave for Yester HIll.

Scarecrows Near the Raven River Crossroads

 

Session 169- A Return to Barovia Part 19

3/2/2025

• Tim and Fecus assign Yevgeni, Szoldar, Drasha, and Seraz to stay 

  at the Winery to guard it for the Martikovs and the helpers from 

  Krezk.

• At the Raven River Crossroads they encounter a hill person being 

  chased by 2 of the Baba Lysaga’s Scarecrows.  They kill the 

  Scarecrows and bring the wild man Gorek with them to Vallaki.

• They deliver the wine to the Blue Water Inn and walk into the public 

  room while Davian Martikov is yelling nasty accusations at his 

  beleaguered son Urwin.  Tim casts Sleep on Davian and nobody 

  protests except his oldest son Adrian.

• Tim and Fecus talk to the sensible daughter of Davian, Stefania.  

  Stefania will prepare her family to return to the Winery asap.

• Victor takes them back to the Burgomaster’s Mansion where they 

  get dinner and spend an uneventful night sleeping.

• 2 Scarecrows killed = 400 XP

• Tim and Fecus each receive 133 XP

• Gugula and Shelby each receive 66 XP

Who stole the Champagne Crystal???

 

 

Session 168- A Return to Barovia Part 18

2/23/2025

• Rams begin exploring the winery at the loading dock next to the 

  stables.

• They discover a wagon loaded with 3 barrels of Purple Grapemash 

  No 3.

• Before Anna K and her guards leave, Rams give her the wagon 

  and the 3 barrels to take back to Krezk.

• They are met by the Wereraven Muriel in the Fermentation Vatroom.  

  She is in raven form with a swarm of ravens and Tim uses 

  Speak with Animals to begin a conversation with the ravens.

• Muriel tells them some back story about the winery’s creation by 

  a powerful Wizard who placed 3 magical crystals in the earth of the 

  vineyard.

• About a decade ago, a crystal was stolen while Urwin was supposed 

  to be on watch.  His father Davian blames him for the loss of the 

  crystal and the vineyard inability to grow the Champagne grapes for 

  the Champagne Du Stomp variety.

• Roughly 3 weeks ago, Baba Lysaga sent scarecrow constructs to 

  steal the 2nd crystal.

• About a week ago, the Druids of Yester Hill stole the 3rd crystal.

• Baba Lysaga doesn’t command the Druids, but she is trying to 

  manipulate them into completely driving the Martikovs away.

• Muriel tells Rams there is another Druid remaining on the property 

  since they fought the other 3.

• Rams go in search of Druid #4 and find him on the second floor of 

  the winery in the Loading Winch Room.

• The Druid wins initiative, but rolls a 1 on his attack.  He falls on the 

  Gulthias Staff and releases a charge, goes instantly mad, and 

  escapes through a secret door.

• Tim carefully grabs the Gulthias Staff without making skin contact 

  because he’s worried it’s a cursed item.

• Rams go through another door to circle around him in the hallway 

  of the second floor.

• They find him in the master bedroom and Tim casts Sleep on him, 

  knocking him out.  Szoldar carries the Druid around while Rams finish 

  exploring the Winery.

• In the cellar they discover 3 more barrels of Purple Grapemash that 

  they roll up to the loading dock.  They take the single remaining bottle 

  of Champagne and a bottle of the Red Dragon Crush.

• Muriel warns Rams the Baba Lysaga and the Druids aren’t done with 

  the winery.

• Rams are thinking the next step is to go do some research at the 

  Castle Ravenloft library.

• Muriel flies off to the Village of Berez, where she is normally spying 

  on the Baba Lysaga.  Tim Polymorphs into a Raven to fly with her 

  for a short bit, is Tim smitten with a Wereraven?

• 1 Druid captured = 450 XP

The Basilisk in Graz'zt's Pleasure Den

 

Session 27- Grim Discoveries in Graz’zt’s Pleasure Den

3/14/2025

• Danika reconsiders her approach and takes her team out of the 

  dungeon and posts up in the brush on the edge of the woods to 

  observe if anybody comes or goes from the silo.

• This proves fruitless, so she takes her team back into the Silo’s 

  dungeon and they begin exploring down the west side, finding 

  the Pleasure Den of Graz'zt.

• They work their way down a few levels, exploring the features 

  of what appears to be a demonically themed sex club.

• When they reach a room where they access the midpoint of a 

  vertical shaft, they rig up their ropes to climb down and explore 

  some more.

• The bottom of the shaft is a 3 way intersection of halls, the first 

  way they explore is to the west and that contains a library of erotic, 

  demonic, or erotic-demonic tomes.

• Going back to the intersection they move to the south and find the 

  Pleasure Pit of Graz'zt, a large room with an obelisk called 

  Graz'zt Pride on the east end and a long sunken pit that appears to 

  contain mattresses and pillows piled along its sides.

• The pit isn’t lit well and they are hearing scraping noises from it that 

  they choose to investigate.

• Partially down the eastern stairs to the pit they see a stone statue of 

  a reclining woman and a large reptilian creature scraping and pawing 

  at it.

• It’s a Basilisk and it tries to freeze Hinek but they make their 

  Save vs. Paralyze.

• They kill the Basilisk and continue exploring, finding a silver hand 

  mirror with the name Lonka engraved on it in the room that 

  overlooks the Pleasure Pit.

• They explore up the eastern side of the dungeon and re-enter 

  Mammon’s Antechamber.

• Wondering what happens if they put different coins in the stone facade 

  door’s coin slots, someone puts a Silver Piece into the appropriate slot.  

  A Magic Mouth opens in the wall next to the door and says “Thank you 

  for paying your monthly tithe.”

• Curious what will happen with an Electrum Piece, they put one in the 

  slot above the SP’s slot.  A Magic Mouth opens to the other side of the 

  door and says “ You have paid a 1 year tithe to Mammon.”

• Wondering what they could have missed in the part of the dungeon 

  they didn’t explore on the lower levels, they make their way down and 

  find a room containing 3 dead bodies.  Their new companion Jare is 

  able to identify them as Father Guz, Mirek, and Dobravka.

• The bodies of Father Guz and Mirek appear to have been tortured and 

  maybe killed by Dobravka, but no injuries are found on Dobravka’s 

  body.

• Danika decides that they need to leave the dungeon and go talk to 

  one of Bad Rajetz’s religious leaders about what they have found.
